About The House of Mangaldas Girdhardas

The 80 year old erstwhile home of Mangaldas Girdhardas (MG), once one of Ahmedabad's most important businessmen and philanthropists, has been carefully and wisely restored and converted into a hotel by his descendants. More home than hotel, the rooms are furnished as if to anticipate the visit of an old family friend.

Every little detail has been carefully looked at and tweaked to perfection. Books line the shelves, rose petals drift in the marble trough in front of the tall, tilted ancient mirror, overstuffed sofas covered in flower patterns sit angled towards the television. Some rooms even feature an old fashioned swing with its original brass supports.

With so much to choose from it may be difficult to decide on the room's best feature, but their very original bathrooms are all special, suffused in warm diffused light with textured white or glass brick walls or green brown tiles, with all the usual amenities.

The indoor pool is a complete delight, designed to resemble a lotus pool in Kerala. Coloured mosaic tiles sketch out pink lotuses and green leaves on the pool floor, a motif that is mirrored on the high ceiling above the pool. The curving prows of traditional Keralan snake boats mark the edge of the pool, creating a feeling of swimming in an isolated paradise.
