Guwahati & Kaziranga

Temples & rhinos

Guwahati is the capital and gateway of Assam, situated on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River that runs the entire length of this picturesque state. There are a number of temples of interest in Guwahati.

However, the most famous attraction in Assam is Kaziranga National Park, home to the rare Great Indian One-Horned Rhinocerous. You won't find this rhino in many other places, so a visit to this park is something special.

"A visit to Kaziranga National Park is worth the effort and an experience which will leave you craving for a repeat visit."

Guwahati & Kaziranga

Day 1, GUWAHATI

Arrive in Guahati where you are met and transferred to your hotel.

Guwahati is the capital of Assam, strikingly located on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river. Of its many mysterious temples, Kamakhya and Navagraha overlook the river, while Umananda sits marooned on an island crag.

The Kamakya Temple, the most important shrine in Assam, is dedicated to the goddess Kali. It is an important centre for Tantric Hinduism and Sakti worship. The Navagraha temple is an ancient seat of astrology and astronomy.

Stay at Kiranshree Portico

Day 2, DRIVE TO KAZIRANGA

Today you drive from Guwahati to Kaziranga which was declared a game reserve in 1926 to save the Indian one-horned rhino from extinction. The beautiful 430 sq km sanctuary, features various habitats. Swampland gives way to jungle, which rises up to deciduous forests and finally to evergreen slopes.

Stay at Wild Grass Resort for two nights

Day 3, KAZIRANGA WILDLIFE SAFARIES

You can take jeep and elephant safaris into the park to spot the famous one-horned rhinos and a wide array of other animals, from vicious buffalo to delicate swamp deer to elusive tigers and a wide variety of birds.

Although jeep rides have better chance of spotting wildlife, being atop an elephant, padding silently in the morning mist through the grass-lands is a wondrous experience.

Day 4, ONWARDS FROM KAZIRANGA

Your tour ends in Kaziranga after breakfast. You can either return to Guwahati or continue to Jorhat & Majuli Island. Alternatively, you can travel to Meghalaya to visit Shillong and Cherrapunji.
