The Bhubaneswar temples have delicate, almost filigree-like carvings whilst the erotic sculptures of Konarak are said by some to surpass even those at Khajuraho. Chilika Lake, Asia's largest salt-water lake, boasts of Irrawady dolphins and rich birdlife. The long sandy beach at Puri with its distinctive green/blue waters makes for a great evening stroll.

Few regions in India are more interesting than Madhya Pradesh, in the heart of India. Intersected by rivers and dotted by hills and lakes, the state has a varied setting of great beauty. The laid back village of Hampi was the last capital of Vijayanagar, one of the greatest Hindu kingdoms in India's history. The city was planned out in neat grids, had a well thought of sewage system, bustling market place full of luxurious goods and magnificent palaces. What's left today are extremely captivating ruins dating back to the 14th century. They stretch for just over 25 kilometers and comprise more than 500 monuments. Moreover, the landscape is remarkable, with huge boulders standing against the blue skies.
