Delhi to Jaipur

Exuberant palaces and exotic street life

Stay two nights in the Pink City of Jaipur, one of the most interesting cities in India with exuberant 18th and 19th century palaces and an exotic street life. You enjoy a half day orientation tour of Jaipur which includes the City Palace & Museum, the Palace of Winds and the Observatory. You also make an excursion to the nearby Amber Fort. There will be time at leisure to wander through the colourful bazaars.

Day 1 - Delhi
After arriving in Delhi, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Delhi, the capital city of India, is where many people start out on their trip. It's divided into two parts - the crumbling old city of Old Delhi, and the orderly and well planned New Delhi - which exist side by side, but feel like they're worlds apart.

Day 2 - Jaipur
Drive from Delhi to India's desert capital of Jaipur, affectionately referred to as the Pink City because of the pink walls and buildings of the old city. On Jaipur's streets, camel carts, scooters, cycle rickshaws, modern cars and bullock carts all jostle for space - a total riot of colour. You may even see a load of computers carried by a camel cart! There are incredible palaces, fascinating observatories, parks and bazaars. Jaipur never fails to thrill.

Day 3 - Jaipur
This morning, after breakfast, you meet your guide and begin your exploration of Jaipur's stunning remnants of a bygone era. Jaipur's most recognized attraction is the front facade of the "Hawa Mahal", or Palace of the Winds, which overlooks the main street of the lively Old City. The City Palace, the principal residence of the former royal family, also houses a museum for textiles and costumes, miniatures, carpets and manuscripts, and arms and armour. Nearby is the Jantar Mantar, a stone observatory created by an astronomer-king in the 18th century to measure everything from altitude to time, and map the movement of the planets and the stars. In the afternoon you make an excursion to the nearby Amber Fort, a magnificent complex of palaces, halls, pavilions, gardens and temples built over a period of 125 years by successive rulers. The rest of the day is at leisure to browse through the bazaars. Jaipur is well known for its beautiful carpets, enameled ornaments, precious and semi-precious stones, brass ornaments and many other arts and crafts.

Day 4 - Jaipur
After breakfast on the last day of your tour, the module comes to an end. Jaipur is a perfect starting point for other trips into Rajasthan. You can therefore continue your Journey through Rajasthan or take the Road to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.
